Hypnosis for Kids
Could your child benefit from hypnosis? Is hypnosis more or less difficult for children? Won’t my child’s mind just wander and not be able to focus on hypnosis? My child has some serious issues – would hypnosis really help?
All these concerns can be answered with one, powerful word: Yes! Your child can be hypnotized, and often the results are faster and even more powerful than with adults.
Working with children is one of the most gratifying and exciting experiences for any hypnosis professional or parent. Children are prime candidates for successful hypnosis, partially due to fewer years of reinforced bad habits. As a result, they make great strides very quickly and easily.
Children also spend much of their time already in a kind of hypnosis state, because of their wonderful use of imagination, so the change in consciousness is not nearly as difficult.
Clinical literature and professional research shows that children are very susceptible to making positive changes through the use of hypnosis. This is through the powerful words we use with them every day. It’s very important and extremely effective to utilize positive affirmations or encouraging words with our children daily.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is powerful! It’s the closest thing we have to a magic wand, which is one of the best ways to communicate this process with children. However, in parent’s terms, hypnosis is simply a way of intentionally focusing one’s attention, by being guided into a relaxed and daydream-like state of consciousness. We are working with only positive suggestions, positive ideas, positive words – so what will the result be? Positivity! Whatever we think about and focus on, whether it is positive or negative, it is where we are putting our energy. It takes the same amount of energy to create either a positive or a negative outcome, hypnosis teaches us that it is easy to focus our energy on what we want and it will result in a positive outcome.
Why do children need hypnosis?
Positive Suggestion Hypnosis helps to build self-esteem, improve skills, eliminate or change bad habits, and create new positive habit patterns. It also can assist in healing, growth, and other physical changes.
How does it work?
Individual Hypnotherapy sessions work to rapidly release any psychological reasons or causes for any bad habits or behaviors. The released bad behaviors are replaced with new habits and positive behavioral patterns. As skills and abilities improve, the natural result is a drastic improvement in self-esteem and self-confidence.
Our office has perfected the application of stories and imagery techniques to encourage children to experience a healthy behavior first through hypnotic imagery. As the child becomes comfortable with this process, it allows them to easily make the transition to incorporate the positive behavior into real-life situations.
How can you use hypnosis at home?
You can use hypnosis to help your child with their sleep issues, anxiety about school or social situations, increase their confidence, which will boost their performance in sports, academics and other activities. Plus, as a bonus to the parent, it gives you a wonderful opportunity to bond with your child before bedtime!
As you tuck your child in to bed for the night, have them close their eyes and get as comfortable as possible, nice and cozy under the covers. Then simply tell your child a wonderful story about succeeding in whatever challenge they are currently facing. Remember to use positive images and words! For example, use this positive wording: “once there was a little child who could sleep comfortably all through the night”, instead of negative images such as, “once there was a little child who did not get up and bother their mom in the middle of the night”.
When it comes to school and the normal challenges of every day life, there are many problems kids can develop. The good news is that hypnosis can help with all of them! Here are a few examples in which hypnosis can be extremely powerful and helpful:

- Classroom performance and behavior
